On Friday 15th July, and wearing our new club patch for the first time, I was honoured to be tested and promoted to the rank of 3rd Dan. Black Belt. In the Presence of IBF Vice President 6th Dan Mr. Kym Reid and Professor of Aikibudo Arts Hanshi 10th Dan, Dante Roccisano. The evening was about demonstrating the art of Kenpo Karitsu from the Teaching of our younger students, to the 3rd Degree Kenpo Black Belt Extensions.
Mr Reid Added :
Congratulations to Mr. Gartland on a brilliant display for his 3rd Dan. Opening with an hour of instruction for his junior class he expressed his knowledge on the angles and principles of Kenpo. After that with the senior class he demonstrated many of the signature sets, Parting Wings, Thundering Hammers etc. and Mr. Parkers Long Form. Continuing on it was good to see the higher level extensions which included many familiar Jujitsu moves and principles. For me it was totally entertaining and the grade well deserved. The IBF are proud to have martial artists of this caliber amongst us.
It was a special night and to show the art that I chose 26 years ago, with the Adelaide students, families and friends was an added bonus. Wearing the Kenpo Karitsu patch designed by my Brother Tony Gartland was the icing on the cake.
